Free

Join us for a very special MBC Lunch Panel on Saturday, October 12th, 11:30 am-2:30 pm at Oswego Grill in Beaverton, 3211 SW Cedar Hills Blvd. The topic for the panel is metastatic breast cancer and mental health.

Speakers include:

Wendy Whitekettle MSW, LCSW, APHSW-C, Oncology Social Worker with Providence Cancer Institute

Wendy Whitekettle is a licensed Clinical Social Worker in Oregon and a Clinical Social Work Associate supervisor. She holds an Advanced Palliative Hospice Social Worker Certification and a Washington Qualified Mental Health Professional license. With a strong educational background in sociology and social work, Wendy has dedicated her career to education and healthcare, specializing in end-of-life care. She played a key role in establishing a palliative care program and Schwartz Center Rounds at a hospital in Philadelphia before shifting to hospice work.

Wendy previously managed a hospice intern and volunteer program on the East Coast. Currently, as a lead social worker at Providence Cancer Institute, Wendy continues to contribute significantly to palliative care. Her extensive experience in palliative care smoothly transitioned her into roles in hospice and oncology social work, including Manager of Volunteers and supervisor of the intern program. Wendy’s passion for supporting families during times of transition has made her a natural fit for her progression from palliative care to hospice, and now to oncology social work.

Val Lanham, LCSW, LICSW, Oncology Social Worker with Compass Oncology

Val Lanham has been an oncology social worker at the Vancouver and Rose Quarter Cancer Centers at Compass Oncology for the past 2 ½ years. She comes to Compass with over 22 years of experience as a social worker. She was trained as a trauma therapist and continues to use a trauma informed approach. Val is invested in supporting patients and their families. Receiving a cancer diagnosis can be a challenging time in patient’s lives but it can also open doors to new ways in living, thinking and feeling. Val prides herself on beginning where the patient is and is focused on a holistic approach.
